There are supermarkets and restaurants close by, which makes it easy to head out and explore. The hotel is in the newer part of Safranbolu and has elevators, so handling luggage is convenient. The rooms have a traditional look, though they feel quite old. The physical keys were awkward to use, and the doors were hard to open and shut. Noise carries easily, and our bathroom was damp and smelled unpleasantly of sewage. The food wasn’t really to our taste. There were lots of cold pickled dishes and not many main options, and breakfast was much the same. The front desk staff put in a lot of effort, even if communication was sometimes difficult.

The staff were sweet and attentive, but the air conditioning was a real problem during our July stay. It seemed the hotel controlled the compressor centrally, and most of the time it was off. When we complained, they turned it on, but only a faint stream of cool air came through. The room eventually cooled from 30 to 27. The next day, it was blowing hot air again. After we called, the so-called cool air brought the temperature down to 28, but it climbed back to 30 overnight. We woke up sweaty, uncomfortable, and unrested.

Only stay here if you’re okay with the AC blowing hot air and leaving the room at 30 C overnight, plus Wi-Fi that tops out at 1Mbps when it works.

This traditional style hotel is in Sanfranbolu, Turkeys, among its unesco treasures. Outside, it has antique architecture, and the decor inside has a 1950s look. The cotton linen is high quality, and the place is clean, comfortable, and well run. It’s conveniently located for shopping along the Boutique stores lane and close to the major tourist attractions. Strongly recommend a visit, you’ll have an unforgettable experience at this antique hotel and in the surrounding area!
