Hasbahan Konak

I checked into Hasbahan Konak hotel on March 12 and moved to another hotel a few days later because of safety concerns, basic room conditions, and the way management behaved. The bathroom door was extremely low, about 4 feet, so I had to crouch to get through. I hit my head on it during the night. The glossy bathroom tiles were slippery, and I slipped on the wet floor but managed to catch my balance. Grit and dust covered the beds and floor, and bits kept falling from the stone and mortar ceiling. While I was asleep, a piece of plaster landed directly on my face. The room also lacked basic conveniences. There was no proper task lighting, the table had no usable power outlet, and the Wi-Fi was mostly unusable unless I sat by a window or outside. There was no proper indoor breakfast area, so guests had to sit outside even when it was cold or raining. I moved elsewhere but kept paying because the property wouldn’t return the balance for my planned two-week stay. When I later asked for a refund for the unused nights, the owner refused. I kept the room key so it couldn’t be resold while I was still paying for it. My guide and I met with the owner to discuss what had happened and try to resolve it. I stayed calm, but the owner became aggressive, threatened to beat me in front of a witness, and lunged at me. Staff had to restrain him. I left immediately while my guide stayed behind to calm things down. This is what I experienced myself. Given the unsafe conditions and management’s conduct, I can’t recommend the property, and I’ll be filing a formal complaint with the local tourism authority.

I had a comfortable bed in the queen bed room and liked the hotel’s unique Turkish style. It’s right in the old city center, with the bazaar, restaurants, fish pool, and shops all within walking distance. The room was decent, and I liked the place, though the soundproofing could be better. I didn’t want to leave Ulfa.

I stayed one night with a friend, and the hotel felt cozy with a lovely atmosphere. The staff were pleasant and easygoing, and looked after us from the moment we arrived until we left. It did get pretty loud for a while because of some groups staying there. Those people seemed to speak as if they had a microphone in their throats. I hope you don’t end up there with that kind of crowd, though the place was otherwise really nice for resting. I also want to thank them for breakfast, even though it wasn’t included in our order.

A lovely, authentic hotel in the middle of Sanliurfa’s old quarter. The staff are so kind and helpful, and will do whatever they can to make your stay pleasant. The Bazar, Abrahams garden, and the museums are all within walking distance.
