We only stopped at the restaurant for coffee, but 150 liras for a Turkish coffee felt more expensive than most European cities. Just a week earlier I’d paid €3.50 for a cappuccino at a posh cafe in Madrid. Then they added a 28 lira service fee, something I haven’t seen elsewhere in Turkey, including İstanbul or Ankara.

A beautiful cave hotel, which is a pretty special place to stay. The plumbing had a few minor issues, though.

We were given a complimentary upgrade to a spacious, characterful suite with beautiful design, and the welcome from the staff was warm and attentive from the start. Breakfast each morning was served in a sunny courtyard under umbrellas, with local dishes and eggs or omelets made to order. The on-site Turkish bath was relaxing, and the two masseuses were professional. The sauna and pool were clean and well cared for, too. The setting is hard to beat, in Cappadocia’s historic heart. The former stone mansion is carved into the mountain and was used as the setting for the TV series Asmalı Konak. The place has loads of history and atmosphere. We’d happily recommend it to anyone wanting comfort and an authentic feel while visiting Cappadocia.

A historic landmark that feels spoiled by commercial greed. When we asked to see the premises, they offered to show us photographs instead. The prices are much too high, and the people were rude.
