Roca Cappadocia

For our honeymoon, we stayed in this lovely cave hotel. The room was clean, and both the service and location were great.

The room was good value, and you can reach the town center in seconds. What really stayed with me, though, was how the staff treated me when I was in trouble. I felt unsafe at a nearby hotel, so I explained the situation to Roca Calpadocia and asked whether I could arrive early. They let me check in by 6:30AM, despite my having booked just one night. Their kindness turned my trip around. They were helpful and lovely throughout my stay, and let me leave my bags for several hours after checkout. I also saw the owner and his little children from a distance a few times, and they seemed very sweet and kind. Thank you to the Roca Cappadocia team for showing such empathy and humanity.

The location was the one thing we liked. We had reserved three rooms months ahead for two families with children, yet they weren't next to each other. One was on the ground floor beside a shared toilet, something I hadn't encountered anywhere in 20 years of travel. They called it their best original cave room, with a jacuzzi, but turning on the tap brought out yellow, foul-smelling waste. Breakfast was very basic, with only a few choices. Two women cooked, washed dishes, and served guests all at once in an open kitchen smaller than my kitchen at home. If you wanted more than two eggs, one of them asked for extra money. Stray cats wandered through the hotel, including the rooms and kitchen, which didn't feel hygienic. I wouldn't recommend staying here. There are plenty of other cave hotels to try.

The staff were great about carrying our bags to and from the rooms, though there’s no lift. Keep in mind that some rooms are reached by stairs, and air conditioning is available only in some of them. It’s a small cave hotel, with a handful of rooms, many set into the hillside and each a little different. We enjoyed our stay, liked being close to the town center, and would come back.
