We enjoyed our two nights here and strongly recommend it for couples. The hotel and room were very good, the breakfast fresh and delicious, and there's free car parking about 250m away, though it's not at the hotel. Staff were polite and lovely. The uncle who welcomed us doesn't know much English, but still made check-in easy. The breakfast server was also very kind. The one thing we didn't like was that our cave room had no window or exhaust fan. Steam built up when we showered with hot water. I can understand that may be how a cave room works, but they should still try to provide some ventilation.

The sofa room matched what was advertised, and the staff were welcoming and took care of everything we needed. Breakfast was a real treat, and the WiFi was a great bonus. I’d happily stay here again next time I visit.

Ürgüp has a quirky, lovely feel, more intimate than Goreme. I enjoyed walking around the hill in the middle of town to see how people live, including some still in cave homes, and one with a cow! A101 and SOK are about a 10-minute walk away. We got a taxi from the stand nearby for 30TL (about $2) because we were carrying lots of bottled water and groceries. Back at Shadow cave, the atmosphere across the hotel’s five or maybe six rooms is peaceful and serene. The cave room was so quiet it felt like a recording studio, and it took us a day or two to get used to that much silence. It’s up on the hill, away from town noise, with beautiful things to look at in every direction. Breakfast is a modest but ample traditional Turkish spread, with olives, fruit, cheese, and either a boiled or fried egg depending on the day. It’s unlike anywhere else I’ve stayed, and I’m hoping to return in the off-season around Christmas. Thanks, everyone!
