Kackar Pension

We felt right at home here. Mr Ismail, his wife Muzayin hanim, and their 4 sons were amazing, friendly, respectful, and generous, doing all they could to make us comfortable. Everything was clean and nice, and the food was amazing with really generous portions. This was by far my best mountain trip experience ever.

We stayed for three wonderful days at Kaçkar panysion. The bedroom was simple, with an amazing view over the stream and mountains to wake up to each morning, and there’s a lovely upstairs sitting room overlooking the mountains too. Ismail and his family were incredibly welcoming, answered all my questions before we arrived, and gave us great recommendations. After beautiful hikes during the day, we came back to hearty, delicious meals and hot showers. I already miss the place and its beauty. We’ll be back!

The drive up took about 17 km on a slow, narrow dirt road. Our rental car managed fine, and it made the trip feel like an adventure. Once there, the clean air, quiet, great birding, and river gurgling day and night made the effort worthwhile. Ismail was an extremely friendly host, and his sons were too. Ismail also speaks French. They helped us find trailheads for short family hikes. We didn’t have gear for longer trips, but those are on our list for next time. Dinner and breakfast were included, delicious, and had lots of options. What a gorgeous place to stay. We couldn’t recommend it more highly!

Ismail is super helpful and answered all my questions. He even shared things from his personal kitchen and lent me his hiking boots, along with whatever else I asked for. The room was well heated and had good hot showers. There are several trails starting right here and a stream behind the place. The location really couldn’t be better. I definitely plan to come back.
