Ali Mountain Oriental Pearl International Hotel

I was on the 11th floor, which I think is the highest, so I wasn’t too worried about people seeing through the glass. Lower floors might feel less comfortable, though, since there are no curtains at the windows. The room was bright and spacious, fairly clean except for a little dust, and the service was friendly. The food was edible and quite good. Supplies were mostly adequate, with a few small inconveniences.

I liked the spacious room, with its cupboards for luggage and a table and chair for working or eating. The fancy lighting and golden yellow color made it attractive. During quarantine they brought food three times a day, and it was all good, with breakfast usually a highlight. They also left iced tea in the morning. The atmosphere was very friendly and the service and facilities satisfied me. There was no window curtain, though, and the large TV had only Chinese channels, so I barely used it.

They charged me a second time for the same stay after I had checked out. I consider that theft, and the police have already been notified. Avoid this place. I’ve never experienced a crime like this at another hotel anywhere in the world.

There’s very little around the hotel, just some dated shops, old houses, and farms. It’s not an ideal base unless you’re heading to Alishan, about two hours down the road. Inside, though, the hotel is newish, clean, and well maintained. Staff are helpful, polite, and friendly. I’m unsure how good their English is, since most guests seem to be mainland Chinese tourists. Wi-Fi worked well throughout. There’s also a newer, clean building for longer stays, less luxurious but much cheaper, so the price makes sense. I was very satisfied and would recommend it.
