The hostel felt like home, and I loved its atmosphere, setup, people, location, and service. I’ve stayed at other hostels in parts of Taiwan, and this has been my favorite so far. I was there for 3 days from May 1-4, planning to visit Alishan and explore nearby places. The owner was quick to reply in chat and sent detailed instructions by email since I didn’t have Whatsapp installed. I was still a bit confused by the door’s security lock. It’s self check-in, so you enter a code, take off your shoes, put on the clean house slippers, and pay with an envelope in the little pigeon box outside. Some staff were around to help me, and even let me into my room before 3 PM so I could rest before going out around Chiayi. The place is very clean and organized, with a cozy living room and kitchen. They provide alcohol and soaps, and there are markers and stickers to label food in the fridge. I did laundry early one morning on the rooftop. Detergent is free, and you can use the racks and hangers. The toilets were spotless too. Since I stayed longer, I saw the staff cleaning. They worked hard, quickly, and carefully. It’s an 11-15 minute walk to the local train station, with lots of youbikes nearby and plenty of food stalls. The night market is only 2-3 minutes away. I went with friends I’d met at the hostel. The confusing check-in had us figuring things out together, and I met Harold and Chiara, as well as the Filipino trio. I accidentally left my powerbank and charger behind, but the staff were quick to respond and helped me get them back.
