Talmud Hotel Classic Taichung Station

The location works well, and the Talmud Hotel Classic is clean and well maintained. I’d recommend it for longer visits to Taichung, thanks in part to the staff's strong response when things go wrong. I had some minor technical hiccups, but they handled them very well. The manager was especially helpful and made sure service stayed at a high standard across departments. If you run into equipment problems, contact the front desk. The team responds quickly.

The staff provide exceptional service, and the rooms are clean. There’s a washing machine and dryer at the hotel. It’s also in a strategic spot near Taichung train station, with many amenities nearby.

The best hour of my stay was breakfast on White Valentine’s Day. The hotel had arranged a live singer, who performed nostalgic Chinese songs while my family and I listened. The staff member was also quite helpful and eager to solve our problem, and I’m thankful for that. The problem was our room. Over three days, we couldn't unlock its door when we returned on three separate days. We had to walk back through four corridors because our assigned tatami room was the furthest from the lift. Apparently all the tatami rooms are at the end. With a one-year-old, that was inconvenient. When the door wouldn't open, someone had to go all the way back to reception while the baby waited in the hot corridor, sweating or waking from a nap. The safe didn't work either, and there was no compensation for the repeated inconvenience.

The room was clean, and it was convenient to be near the train station. But the soundproofing was poor enough that I could hear the TV next door. We had to specify at check-in whether we wanted the room cleaned or left alone, since there was no do-not-disturb option. We asked for housekeeping, but they only changed the towels. The bed wasn't made and the toilet wasn't cleaned.
