The hosts made this stay for me. They were easy to reach, let me check in early, greeted me in person, and shared plenty of ideas for things to see and do. I stayed three nights at Buda Banai Hostel in Chishang, a small town surrounded by famous rice fields. It felt more like staying in someone's home than at formal lodging, and the young couple running it were cheerful and genuinely welcoming. The room was roomy, the shower was good, and there was a kitchen and excellent WiFi. It's about five minutes from the main street, far enough away to be quiet. A five-star stay. Many thanks!

There weren't any other guests around, and I didn't see any staff. Free bicycles are available. The place is near the town center, though there's not much in town. Rooms are roomy and very clean, with good WiFi and air conditioning, plus an excellent shower.

It was quiet around the place, and if you're driving, street parking nearby was handy. Inside, the room was clean and bright, and the small bathroom was still comfortable. The air conditioning didn't have much strength, but there was a fan to stop the room getting stuffy. The price seemed fair, though it might not suit someone after a low-cost stay with luxury comforts.

I picked this place from the many B&Bs in Chishang because it was very cheap. A weekday quad room with two large beds was NT$2,100. It's run in a semi-self-service way, and the surroundings were nice and the stay quiet. The air conditioner was the main problem: it was so noisy that anyone sensitive to sound might not be able to sleep. The basin was tiny and awkward to use, too. The electric fan was dusty, as if it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. I hope the owners address those issues.
