Donghe Surf Shop & Hostel - Taitung

The room was spotless, the bed felt just right, and the bathroom was clean with strong water pressure and plenty of hot water. There’s a purified water dispenser, kitchen, and free instant coffee and tea, plus a surf shop with fair prices. The AC worked fine and there were no odd smells or dampness. Wang, the proprietor, is a real one. He helped me without asking for anything back, and made me feel very welcome. He also rips, so there’s endless access to surf info. It’s the cheapest place to stay around here, and basic, but in a surf town who needs to spend all day in the room? Wang sometimes puts on events and hangouts in the social area if you want to meet people or fill some downtime. Restaurants are nearby, the break is about an 8 minute walk, or 15 if you’re slow, haha. There’s a 7/11 down the street. When I’m back, I’ll stay here again.

The owner was great, even calling to let us know my son had left his AirPods behind. The place is affordable, really clean, and just minutes from good surf spots. We’ll be back ASAP for another surf trip 🏄‍♀️ 🏄‍♂️ 🌊 ☀️

Really affordable and extremely clean, this is just right for backpackers. The owner is super kind and welcoming, and you can get surf lessons or rent a board here. I’d recommend it to surfers heading to jinzun since the surf spots are so close.

Sean was a helpful, passionate surf teacher. After showing me the basics, he helped me catch suitable waves so I could get a feel for actual surfing. It was my first lesson and a lot of fun. I was the only one taking part, and the lesson lasted 2 hours instead of 3. Surfing nonstop still wore me out by the end.
