Hotel Royal - Nikko Taipei

The location in the middle of Zhongshan District was so convenient, with cafés and shops nearby. I call Taipei 'the city if cafes'. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, and that duvet made for a particularly good night's sleep. We usually stay at the Regent, but tried the Royal Nikko next door this time and were genuinely impressed. The service even seemed better than at Regent. Before we had finished paying the airport driver, a bellboy was already there to bring our luggage inside. Check-in was warm and efficient, and the staff brought our bags right up to the room. A five-star welcome. We'll definitely come back to Taipei.

The staff at Hotel Royal Nikko Taipei were friendly and accommodating. I asked at short notice for help booking a restaurant we wanted to try, and they took care of it. After checkout, they also kindly arranged to have some things I'd forgotten in the room shipped to me. My family and I stayed four nights. Our room was clean, spacious, and comfortable, and we had a wonderful time. I'd stay here again when I'm in town.

Sheryl greeted us warmly every day, and the service throughout was friendly and excellent. The rooms were clean and spacious, too. It's a great spot, close to Taipei main station and several subway stops.

For what we paid, the service and cleanliness were poor. We had trouble communicating with the staff attending to us because they couldn't speak English or mandarin. There was black mold on the bathroom ceiling, and the room cleaner left a used tissue on our bed. When I complained, the service recovery was very, very poor. At first the reception staff seemed nonchalant, and I almost felt stupid trying to explain the problem. They said sorry, but didn't seem to have much else to offer. It was deeply disappointing. We're unlikely to stay here again or recommend paying this price.
