The room was clean and a pretty good size.

I checked into Clownfish Resort Hotel on the first night of Lunar New Year this year. Traffic was heavy and I was worn out after a long day of sightseeing, so I showered and fell asleep as soon as I got to the room. I checked out at 8:00 the next morning and carried on with my itinerary. That evening, while having dinner at a restaurant near Fo Guang Shan, I got a call from the hotel saying the electric kettle was missing from my room and accusing us of taking it. That was absurd. There’s plenty to do on the grounds, with bike rentals, a pool, KTV and a BBQ area, and the place has a roomy resort feel. Families with kids seem especially well catered for, including themed rooms like mermaid and jungle options. Rooms come in sizes from doubles to quads, and ours was spacious, comfortable and well equipped. It’s a quieter spot in the Hengchun area, away from the bustle of Kenting Main Street, which suits a relaxed getaway. The tradeoffs are that it’s somewhat remote, so driving is more convenient, the facilities feel casual rather than upscale, and quality may dip a little when it gets crowded in peak season.

The bed was the one thing that bothered me, it creaked whenever I moved. Otherwise, the soundproofing was excellent, and the small apartment-style suite had everything I needed. I stayed here on August 4, 2025, the first night of my motorcycle trip around the island. The hotel has potential, but it should look at renovating and upgrading to stay competitive.
