The host doesn't speak much English, but the location is good and the rooms are well furnished.

We'd already paid the full price for two nights and two rooms, and asked if we could postpone instead, leaving that money with the guesthouse. They said we had to confirm the change within two days or they couldn't grant it. Our family member was critically ill, and the situation was too uncertain for us to give a definite date. They only allow one postponement, so I kept wondering, what if we needed to attend a funeral? We weren't trying to cause trouble. No one wants plans disrupted, especially for something unavoidable. Couldn't they give us a little time to care for our family before making travel arrangements? We knew the booking policy, and we couldn't go because of the serious illness. We contacted them 13 days before check-in. Their policy says a full refund applies when booked 14 days ahead, while at 13 days they charge 30% of the room rate. We hoped they'd make an exception, but they said there was nothing they could do under the policy. We accepted that it was our problem. Now it's 10 days before check-in and the cancellation penalty is set to increase again. What are we supposed to do?

The room was decent and had a refrigerator, LCD TV and hairdryer, but there was a bad smell. Parking is shared across the street from the Kenting Star Inn sign. You can take the side road next to the store as a shortcut, otherwise getting things out of the car is frustrating. A few things took some getting used to. The nearby chanting is cut in half if you close the windows. The velvet chair is apparently what can be bad for your skin, so just move it and don't touch or sit on it. The shop staff seem rude, though the singers from a popular Taichung band seem even ruder. The soundproofing is poor, too. There are concrete walls, but the single homely wooden door has lots of gaps, and you can hear hallway noise even while walking up the stairs. Still, I gave it four stars for the price and location. A double room near the main street is around 2xxx, while the 1200 I saved could go toward better food. It's right on the main street, and we went back and forth three times that day, showering after each trip so we'd be ready for another walk. Hi-Life is just a few steps downstairs, handy for picking up snacks on the way back. The bathroom water pressure was really strong, which is a big reason we went back three times, though maybe ours at home is just weak.
