Kenting Masalu Lakeside Resort

The front desk service was quick and attentive, and Kenting's attractions were easy to reach from the hotel. The room itself looked a little dated. The refrigerator door was broken at first, but the hotel replaced it. There was visible rust on the showerhead and bathroom hardware, and the toilet and bathroom were semi-open, separated by only half a wall and no door. My bedding wasn't clean on the first day. It was changed after I reported it, but the same problem came back on the third day. Breakfast was a set meal on days one and two, mostly cold and average; on day three it was self-service, though some food was still cold. The jacuzzi foamed heavily when I first filled it, perhaps because the previous user hadn't cleaned it properly. The next day I found lots of live ants in the tub and had to remove them myself. When I came back the following day, the room hadn't been cleaned. Staff told me I needed to hang a card outside the door to request cleaning, which differs from what I'm used to at ordinary hotels.

The room was clean and pleasant, and the owner was nice. Breakfast came in Western or Chinese styles and tasted quite good. Still, it was one serving per person, and some guests couldn't finish it or didn't like the dishes, so there was waste. They could change the choices or the way breakfast is served.

There was plenty to eat at breakfast: one serving per person with seven dishes and a steamed bun, unlimited coffee and drinks, plus as much congee as you wanted. The room was clean and had a bathtub, which was great for relaxing, and the parking lot was large. Even on a weekday, ten rooms were occupied, which seemed like good business compared with other guesthouses. They also had two cats that seemed to be strays. They were shy, so I couldn't play with them. Highly recommended!

We got room 105, the Japanese-style six-person room with three queen beds, for 2,600. My son gave the stay five hearts. The car could be parked right beside the window, and there were two TVs, one classic and one older, so kids and adults didn't have to fight over them. The room looked renovated and the air conditioner seemed new, but it was freezing that day, so we left it off. I chose the place for the bathtub. It's a standard tub, but one adult and two children could soak in it easily. We'll see how breakfast is tomorrow morning. Time for bed.
