Hsinchu 101 Inn

The view was quite good, and the room was great, though not especially clean, still acceptable. It's easy to get around with YouBike nearby. The location is good, right beside the train station, and check-in and checkout were easy. Overall, pretty worth staying.

Our hostel booking fell through, so we walked in here on a Saturday at the start of a four-day holiday period. Most places seemed booked, and those still taking guests were openly charging more than usual. This hotel could have asked for anything, but gave us a room for the night for around NZ$80, including breakfast for two. That's not bad in the circumstances. The room and bathroom were both quite spacious, and everything was very clean. There were English TV channels, a hot and cold water filter in the room, plus tea and coffee, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, and even a hair tie. It's literally a two-minute walk from the station and the main shopping in town. At the regular rate of about NZ$40, I'd rate it a 5.

The location is handy, just a five-minute walk from Hsinchu Train Station. The door appears to have only a chain lock, but it can't be opened from outside without a key. Cleaning missed some poorly lit spots, perhaps because the cleaners didn't bend down to reach them. I was dismayed to find a tissue under the bed and a soiled diaper under the table.

I loved my stay, and the price was really good compared with many overpriced places in the area. The hotel may not be the newest, and there were a few minor hiccups with the elevator, WiFi, and other things. They fixed everything pretty quickly, so it wasn't worth making a fuss about. All the staff were great, friendly, polite, and happy to help, even though most didn't speak English. The lobby girls, cleaners, and kitchen staff were all lovely. Breakfast was nice, one of the best I've had compared with other places I've stayed. Recommended.
