Chao She Hotel

The room itself was clean and put together well, the bed was comfortable, and there generally wasn’t a smoke smell. But I slept worse here than anywhere else on my Taiwan trip, over several nights. You can hear people throughout the hotel, even alarms other guests set, and noise-cancelling headphones and white noise didn’t help. The carpets in the elevator and hallways were disgusting. Someone on the 8th floor smoked, and it made the AC smell awful. I told the front desk, but they seemed uninterested in checking or fining the person. Since sounds from the hallway carry into the room, I’m sure nobody came up to look. The person smoked again that night. The wifi was slow, and Agoda’s listing said the hotel had laundry, which it didn’t. This is the second time I’ve run into that in Taiwan. I also had mosquitoes in a room with no windows. And I always rate hotels lower when they ask for five stars in exchange for a perk. Fake reviews!!

The receptionist spoke only a little English, but we managed to communicate with Google Translate. Our room, CR and beddings were all clean, and we had a great stay. The river is a block away, and Liuhe night market is within walking distance.

The lobby felt stuffy and the water was lukewarm. There’s no laundry service, and the shower leaks with water pressure like a hose. The WiFi is spotty and barely works.

The shower drain was badly clogged, so the water went down slowly. The next room had the same problem. When I asked to switch rooms a second time, they told me not to test the drainage before moving in. Bad service and bad facilities.
