Chantai Hotel

The manager was very friendly and spoke good English, but the bathroom walls were really dirty and the floor was still wet when we arrived. There's no fridge, either. You get what you pay for, though the room definitely could have been cleaned better.

We felt safe, clean, and comfortable here, and the room itself was comfortable too. The bathroom was clean, and there wasn't anything negative about the stay. Check-in and check-out were easy, though we did need to show a passport to check in. When we were stranded in the city, this was a very good find. The woman there spoke English and showed us in person the rooms we were considering. Worth the money.

We paid $1000 for a single bed room over Dragon Boat Festival weekend, plus another $400 for our Xiao Jie. I hope she made a good impression with her good behavior and cleanliness! Steve greeted me, my wife, and our dog warmly when we arrived. He made sure we were comfortable and said we could ask for him if we ran into any problems later. The hotel has a spot in the lobby to park a motorcycle, and it's less than a 10 minute ride to Dong Da Men Night Market. The train station is across the street. If you want to explore Hualien and spend your $$$ on food and fun instead of a canopy bed, Chantai Hotel is a good place to stay. Ignore the bad reviews if you're after a clean, comfortable room at a good price.

Steve, the older gentleman, is very talkative and makes you feel at ease. The rooms are clean and the facilities are in good condition. The TV can pick up English language channels like HBO, Discovery, and National Geographic. A top choice in Hualien!
