We barely heard traffic even though our room faced the street, which suited me since I'm sensitive to noise. The room was a good size and the double bed fit two comfortably. The owner was welcoming and gave us useful ideas for the surrounding city, especially since Taroko Park is still closed. He speaks English and waited for our check-in after 20h. He also let us leave our luggage there until late afternoon after checkout. The station is a 10-minute walk away, and the night market about 20 minutes. There are plenty of places to eat nearby. Great service and location.

As a Taiwanese person, I wouldn't recommend this place to visitors from other countries. The owner seemed not to like tourists from abroad. One guy forgot to switch off the light after leaving the laundry room, and the owner got angry, even though the reminder sign was only in Chinese. I felt he should have been more patient. Afterward, he told several guys to stop smoking in front of the hostel without giving a reason. He also told me to stop drinking alcohol when I was just having a drink by myself. I won't return.

Dongdamen Night Market is about a 28-minute walk away, with traditional and modern shops along the route. The location is great for getting around, close to the train station, restaurants, and places to rent scooters or cars, and near just about everything.

The toilet was dirty and the room smelled. I wish I'd stayed somewhere else.
