Yun Tein Lou

The owner was welcoming and even offered us dessert, and there’s a downstairs area where guests can sit and chat. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a kitchen available. It was a relaxing place to come back to after sightseeing, and I’d recommend it to friends visiting Hualien.

We’d stayed at Yuntianlou before and remembered it as nice and clean. This time we rented the whole building for a big family trip, and it turned into a nightmare. The kitchen and floors were filthy, the rooms smelled musty, and it felt like nothing had been cleaned. Our child got 7-8 flea bites. When we told the landlady, she casually said she’d disinfect next time and even asked how many fleas had bitten us. I was so angry I wanted to curse at her. We were traveling with family and didn’t want a confrontation, so we let it go then. Still, I don’t want anyone else getting hurt, which is why I’m sharing this. The landlord had set the living room air conditioner to 27 degrees and hidden the remote, apparently to stop us using the room. When we complained by phone, she first said the remote was missing, then said it was set to shut off at midnight and that it wasn’t cooling because the room was large and the unit old. We pushed back because that made no sense. Later she came over, took the remote from a locked cabinet, and said she’d done it to save electricity. Just unbelievable. Close to 1 a.m. that night, she called again to ask if the air conditioning was off, which made us furious. The landlady seemed to care only about her electricity bill and showed no service spirit. I’ll never stay there again. Hualien has beautiful scenery, and I’m sure there are better homestay operators. Is this one worth recommending? I really don’t think so.

The bed was really comfortable, thumbs up. The setting is lovely, the owner is very nice, and you can use the kitchen yourself or even have a barbecue.

Yuntianlou was great. The owner is very handsome, and it’s really nice to rent the whole building and have free use of the kitchen and living room. The rooms are roomy and comfortable, and sound doesn’t carry much.
