They told me only after I had booked that the 12-person room could hold just 8 people, with an added charge for each extra guest. They offered an 80% refund on the very day I paid the deposit. Is this a scam? I have to wonder whether this guesthouse is actually making money from guesthouse bookings. Think twice before booking.

Families with children are treated very unfairly here. If you've got two or more kids, don't come: the place will turn you away and won't refund you.

The owners helped arrange itineraries before we even checked in, and they were incredibly welcoming. They gave us a generous list of names at check-in and seemed to have every service we could think of, plus others we hadn't expected. There’s a fridge, microwave, washing machine, and everything else you need, with a cozy atmosphere and free public parking right next door. I’d stay here again next time I’m in Hualien. ❤️
