The full amount has already been charged, so I’ll respect the guesthouse’s decision. I’m still hoping someone needs a room on December 13th (2025) and can contact us to arrange a transfer, so the room doesn’t go unused. I booked for that date but can’t check in because of a sudden family emergency. The owner won’t refund us or let us change the dates. I contacted Agoda, and they said the room could be released for other travelers if the guesthouse agreed to a free cancellation. I’ve always understood the booking rules and wasn’t demanding one. We contacted the guesthouse 13 days before arrival, not at the last minute, and the fee is a real expense for us too. I thought there might be a way to make this less damaging for both sides, especially since a room that looked as lovely as the photos might book quickly once available again. I asked whether anyone wanted to take over the room because I hoped to avoid wasting it or causing the guesthouse a loss, not to make trouble. We followed the platform rules and only tried to communicate, so I didn’t expect the reply’s tone. Being called selfish when I was looking for a compromise really upset me. Nobody plans for these situations. I hope travelers dealing with unexpected problems can be treated with more compassion. I hope this lovely space won’t go to waste.

The host made the room feel comfortable and sent us video instructions for using the facilities before we arrived. Everything worked smoothly, including the air conditioning and other appliances. The room and bathroom were both clean and spacious, and the lightweight hairdryer had plenty of airflow. 👍

The huge bathtub had great water pressure and temperature, and the bed was so comfortable I could fall asleep straight away. After a bath, stargazing fans should avoid lying down with their phones, or they might do what I did and fall asleep before looking at the stars. There’s a terrace with tables and chairs for stargazing, plus a quiet, adorable black dog. I accidentally dropped my tripod late at night and made a noise while stargazing. Sorry the dog barked to warn me. I hope it didn’t disturb its owner. 😓 I first stayed on December 17, 2025, and came back on January 14, 2026. iL is now my first choice when I travel in Yilan County. It’s peaceful and away from the city bustle, yet only a seven-minute drive from National Ilan University, with places to eat easy to find. Jiaoxi, Yilan City, Luodong, Su'ao, Dongshan, and Sanxing are all 20-30 minutes away, which makes sightseeing and dining convenient. There’s parking and a first-floor shared living and dining area with a coffee machine, oven, refrigerator, sink, cookies, and candy. The rooms are very clean, and the small balcony has tables and chairs. A thoughtful detail: there’s an ashtray with coffee grounds on the table. The audio-visual setup is excellent too. You can listen to pleasant music even in the bathroom while soaking, and the movies, music, room facilities, and color scheme all show the owner’s care, sophistication, and taste. Two small drawbacks: the parking area doesn’t have enough light, and I worried about backing into a field at night. A reflective marker on the ground or a tree would help. Also, the entrance sign isn’t very noticeable at night. On my first visit, navigation wasn’t enough and I had to go back and roll down the car window to spot it. There’s no elevator, and breakfast isn’t included, though that wasn’t a big deal to me since I like heading out early to find food. I prefer staying somewhere quiet and relaxing like this.

The Japanese style gives the place a slow, leisurely feel. I’ve stayed twice and loved it both times. The balcony, huge bathtub, and big bed were all favorites.
