Ahiruyah Guest House in Kaohsiung - Hostel

The location was the one good thing for me. The hostel itself was just okay, but there were three serious problems. First, the reception staff were unfriendly. During check-in, one woman was impatient and didn't listen while I tried to compare the prices she'd already charged to my card with what I saw in the Booking app. She pointed at the paperwork and told me twice that those were the prices, while pushing me to sign. I asked her to wait so I could check on my phone. This happened three times, and nobody else was waiting, so there was no queue pressure. At the end she said, literally, “Go to your room.” I was shocked and couldn't even respond. If you're dealing with tourists in English, speak English instead of using Chinese translated into English. Learn proper English or basic manners. Tourists are people, not animals to order around. Second, the beds were old wooden ones, broken in places and patched with masking tape. They looked childish, and there was nowhere on my bed or the other beds to put personal belongings. The third problem was the showers. The old curtains were lousy, and water ran from the shower area into the space where you were supposed to undress and get dressed. There was no dry place to change. I don't understand the planning or logic behind that setup. It was horrible. There were lots of rules, all also written in English, but tourist information and laminated maps were only in Chinese. That didn't feel welcoming at all.
