Toongmao Hotel Kaohsiung

I booked two rooms through the Booking.com app, including one double room, but the hotel put us in a room for disabled guests without telling us. When I asked to switch, staff said no other rooms were available. I’m very upset by how irresponsibly this was handled. They should have told us the rooms were unavailable and asked whether we agreed to stay in this special room. When I said I’d give one star on Booking because of the rude room assignment, the staff just said “ok” straight away. Such a bad attitude. I was on the third floor and had no wifi. I messaged the hotel on Booking but got no reply. The service was so bad.

The wifi was a disaster and really needs fixing if this is meant to be a business hotel. The room was clean, had a window, and no smell, and the window blocked street noise well. The decor looked dated, but for the price it was still okay. Three stars overall.

I ended up here because all the hotels were booked during a local holiday. There are lots of restaurants nearby, the metro is 200 meters away, and the lobby has free coffee and some snacks during the day. The hotel is clean, but worn and old, and the rooms smelled of cigarettes. Breakfast is Asian style; the only Western option is toast with butter and marmalade. They speak almost no English. The rental bikes are very old, and the gym only has cardio equipment, no weights. Coin laundry is on the 11th floor.

The room was clean and comfortable, and the hotel is conveniently located downtown. The night market is within walking distance.
