Herb Art Hotel

The location is well placed, and the receptionist was friendly. There’s a water dispenser and coffee machine ready to use, which was handy. The room was smaller than I expected and couldn't fit two large 28-inch suitcases fully open. The bathroom is small and smelled musty when I first went in. Apart from that, everything was good.

The hotel makes it easy to get around on foot. The train station, Night Market and other city conveniences are about 5-10 minutes away, with plenty of good food and drink spots close by. The rooms are spacious, attractive and well equipped, each with a bathroom and balcony. The TVs include movies on demand at no extra charge. Breakfast was fine, mostly local food, with bread and toast too. A few things to keep in mind: the balconies are used by smokers since smoking isn't allowed in rooms, and the outdoor furniture could tempt children to climb. The shower is over the bathtub. There’s a grab bar, but it may not be enough for guests with limited mobility. The rooms also seemed to let heat out rather than keep it in, so pack warm sleepwear in colder seasons. There’s a small gym, really just a little room with equipment and no view, and a laundry room with free washers and dryers. You'll need your own washing powder. Keep an eye on your laundry: someone slipped a foul-smelling rag into my clothes in the dryer more than once, leaving them smelling terrible. Underground parking is available if you drive.

The service desk staff were very friendly and seemed ready to help with requests. The bathroom was clean and the water pressure was okay, though it was tiny and the sink was set outside it. We had a standard room for two, and it felt smaller than expected. Soundproofing was really poor. We could clearly hear people moving next door and their morning alarm, along with frequent knocking while we were in the room. Pretty annoying.

The night market, Keelung's main attraction, is only about 200 meters away. The hotel is also near bus stops and not too far from the railway station. Rooms are small, but clean and tidy, with a TV, fridge, hair dryer and other useful basics. For the price, it's the best option in Keelung.
