Hotel Jiji Plus

Ugh, I had a rough time here.

The hair dryer was pretty good, but I wouldn't recommend this place to everyone. In this rural area, there are no restaurants at night, so I ended up buying instant noodles at the convenience store. They should provide noodles to make up for that. There wasn't bottled water either. The dispenser outside only gave room-temperature water despite having an ice-water button, so that kind of dispenser seems pointless. The room design has a lot of problems. Clothes hang above the table, the chair is too close to the TV, and it only has mods, no YouTube. The sink is too open, so splashes wet the floor. There are no slippers or hand soap, and only a large bath towel, with no small towel for drying your hair. The basic shower has nowhere to put hair clips or face wash, and the bathroom floor is slippery. The showerhead is fixed too high for shorter children to reach easily. You can only put clothes and towels on an outdoor wooden shelf, so getting them after a shower means being seen by people in the room. That overly open setup only works with people you're comfortable being exposed around, not parents or friends.

The room was only average for cleanliness. There were old drink stains on the table, and the carpet may help absorb sound, but with no paper slippers I worried about how clean the floor was. Soundproofing itself was acceptable, and we weren't disturbed. The bathroom was decent, though only bath towels were supplied. The hairdryer was okay, but bring your own if needed. Parking includes open-air and basement spaces, but it's tight and hard to get in and out. The staff were patient and friendly. The hotel has two buildings with one elevator each, which didn't feel like enough. Waits could be long, especially when a guest held up the elevator. They did provide free late-night snacks, which is commendable, but it was just instant noodles. Nearly 90% of guests were eating bowl noodles, with pork rib and chicken as the only options, though they tasted pretty good. At first, nobody knew where to get bowls for soaking the noodles, whose flavors were a little more varied. That was inconsiderate.

We were told the room came with a late-night snack downstairs, so at 9:12 we took the kids down, excited to get instant noodles. The receptionist then said that since our booking didn't include breakfast, it didn't include the snack either. But the hotel description said free instant noodles were provided. Refusing us snacks because we needed parking felt ridiculous. How much instant noodles could we possibly have eaten? The attitude was appalling. The parking policy was just as frustrating. The listing said “Free parking, no reservation required,” but only when we arrived did they say we had to find street parking. We refused because avoiding street parking was why we booked. They said cheap rooms didn't get parking, which should have been clearly stated. After we explained the mistake, the receptionist said we could still park. This deserves less than one star. I don't know if the manager made these decisions or the staff did. If employees can decide this on their own, the hotel needs to be careful who it hires, especially in this difficult economy.
