The landlady was always smiling and so kind to us. She even drove all four of us to the attractions and kept saying we should ask anytime we needed a ride. We were really touched and grateful. The room was spotless, and the guesthouse is close to the airport, pier, and market, which made it a great choice. We’re heading back to Taiwan tomorrow and will miss her. Landlady, we’ll miss you!

The location made getting to the port easy on foot, which mattered because I didn’t feel comfortable riding a scooter on Matsu’s mountainous roads, especially with older people and children in our group. They also offer car rentals, though the cars we saw were literally for rent and very dirty and messy inside 🤣. They charge $2500/day. Just kidding! The airport shuttle is free, but remember to say how many people are in your group when you call. The owners are very laid-back and not detail-oriented. When we didn’t get an answer about transport, it seemed like they might have squeezed us into a regular car, human-stacking style. After we protested seriously, they let us drive ourselves to the guesthouse, while the owner stayed behind at the airport. Haha, they’re really casual! Our room wasn’t 120% clean. The mattress and sheets looked old and noticeably dirty, probably from old stains, and there were fleas on the bed. There was no soap dish, and Nangan still seems to have a flea problem. On the plus side, the floor and toilet were very clean. The souvenir shop downstairs was busy, with tour groups often buying in bulk. The airport carries the Ijina souvenir brand too, so I think it’s a long-established local brand. I hope the owners become more professional and attentive to details, which could make the business even better. I wouldn’t rule out staying again, though. They’re so easy to get along with that I’d like to come back sometime.

The owners were warm and welcoming, and we had two breakfasts during our two-night stay: Matsu Burger on the first morning and Dingbianhu, a kind of rice noodle soup, on the second. There’s a good sauerkraut fish restaurant nearby too. The location is handy for exercise, with a 400-meter track opposite. Across it are the "Mini Three Links" and the pier for boats to Beigan. You can rent scooters right there, which is even more convenient than going to a convenience store. There’s a Starbucks, FamilyMart, and post office nearby, plus Bingbing Youli, 7-Eleven, and another FamilyMart by the pier on the other side of the track. Those convenience stores aren’t open all night, and seemed to close around 8 or 9 pm. It looks like an ordinary guesthouse, but the first-floor souvenir shop is a special touch. Even the packaging has the guesthouse logo on the back, and if you buy too much, they can pack it and send it to the airport. In the elevator I noticed the owner’s photos, including presidents and famous TV hosts, as well as stories about donating ambulances 👍.

A balcony and washing machine in the room were really handy. The pier is very close too.

The shower area was clean, the beds had been made, and there was air conditioning. But the slippers were old, which I guess makes sense when there aren’t many tourists. The door lock was worn too, and there wasn’t a soap dish. After all these years, Nangan still seems to have fleas, and there were some on the bed. The price felt relatively high.
