CHECKinn Express New Taipei Tamsui

The room was excellent and the beds were comfortable. This is an easy self-check-in hotel, directly across from Tamsui Commuter Station and within walking distance of Tamsui's popular spots. I'd suggest staying overnight after visiting Tamsui Fisherman's Wharf.

The location is ideal, the bed was comfortable, and the A/C worked well enough. The TV also had Disney Channel and YouTube. But the room was cramped, with barely enough space to move around, and the walls looked grimy. Black spots and mould in the bathroom put me off spending time in there. The A/C blew straight at the bed, which made it hard to sleep. Sewer bugs kept crawling out of the drains and flying around the room. The shower head barely let out any water. I understand the place may be trying to save water, but that trickle wasn't satisfying.

The best thing about this budget place on the seventh floor in Tamsui is the location, across from the MRT and near Tamsui Old Street. The A/C had good airflow, there were lots of TV channels including Disney, and the walls kept noise from other guests out. But I wouldn't recommend a long stay. Two people would find the room very cramped. The shower was awful, with only a light sprinkle coming from the center of the head. The room wasn't very clean, either: there were long hairs on the bed and in the shower, and it was dusty. It also looked old, unlike the photos online, and had mould on the ceilings. Since the hotel is on the seventh floor of a large building, its elevators are shared with other businesses and get crowded, with long waits. No escalator goes up to the seventh floor.

At 3 pm sharp, the lobby machines came on for self check-in. We'd arrived a little early after afternoon tea, so we waited about 15 minutes in the small waiting area. The process was simple: enter the booking details, including the number from the booking website, and scan your passport. If you don't have the details ready, staff can enter them for you. The machines gave us two key cards. Our room was clean, with lovely views of Tamsui Metro Station and Tamsui River. There's a window ledge where you can sit and enjoy them. CheckInn Express Hotel Tamsui is on the seventh floor of City Plaza Shopping Mall, a good height for watching commuters come and go from Tamsui train station.
