The room was reasonably priced and much bigger than usual, and they covered what I needed without extra charges. Service was prompt and polite, with no frills or hassle. I didn't find myself complaining during the stay. The place is still just okay, though. On arrival I thought I'd made a huge mistake: the interiors were old, drab, and dilapidated, and it could have been cleaner. A few months earlier I'd stayed at The Sukosol in Thailand, which was cleaner, prettier, more luxurious, and better located in every way I could see. I gave that one only two stars, and at first I figured this place deserved one. But thinking it over, a hotel is more than its building and facilities. It's also about how you're treated and how the experience feels. The Sukosol had the better building, but I didn't actually think it was the better hotel. This place isn't great, just okay, and sometimes that's exactly what I need.

It's far from the shopping centers, though there's a 7/11 nearby. The buffet is great.

I was disappointed with Hione Hotel, though Taiwan itself is a great country. Our group had over 25 people, and the stay never felt satisfying except for being together with my big family, which was the saving grace. It's far from Ximending, where the action is. There aren't good restaurants nearby, and the neighborhood felt like a "third world country." I wouldn't feel encouraged to take a morning walk or jog there. Buses are always lined up in front of the hotel, too. Getting into the city by bus with elderly parents didn't seem suitable for us, and we ended up spending more by hiring a bus for our group to see the New Year's Eve fireworks in 2025. I think booking near Ximending would have let us walk to Tower 101 for the fireworks.
