The top-floor stairs are extremely steep, and we could hear outdoor music and public announcements at night. There was no check-out procedure, just leave the key and go. Breakfast wasn't included in our booking, and I don't think they offer it anyway. We paid full price and didn't feel it was worth it. Winter made the room impossible for us to enjoy. There was no heating or electric blanket, and the bathroom was too cold to shower in. The tatami had a few patches of mould. Maybe it's pleasant in summer, but not in winter. We didn't use the TV or try the air conditioning. Agoda reviews were locked, so I couldn't post there. It didn't seem Japanese-friendly, so if you're Japanese, look for somewhere else.

Our top-floor double was roomy and had a lovely view. The breakfast was modest but tasty, and left space for all the snacks in Jiufen. The host didn't speak much English, though her translation device worked perfectly.

The owners were warm, considerate, and helpful. They gave us useful pointers for getting around Jiufen Old Street and finding interesting places and restaurants. Our top-floor double was quiet, clean, and very spacious, with a great view, two TVs, an air conditioner, and a standing fan. The location is convenient, around a three-minute walk from Jiufen Old Street. Just be aware that reaching Kozy Stonehouse means going up and down staircases, so heavy luggage is best avoided.

We got a complimentary room upgrade, and it was clean, well equipped, and felt like home. The staff were great about sharing dining tips and how to get around, and their hand-drawn map showed the main sights around town. It's a little hard to find, but only an alley away from the bustle of the old street, so you get quiet and easy access to the tourist spots. I'd recommend it to anyone exploring jiufen.
