Kyufun Komachi

Getting here with a big suitcase can be awkward because there are several stairways, but the homestay itself was wonderful. Jiufen's main streets are only a short 4-5 minute walk away. Our room felt spacious, with a sitting area and balcony or terrace seating, and the beds were very comfortable. The large bathroom had a bathtub, a separate shower, a vanity, and plenty of outlets. Breakfast was included, and we enjoyed the authentic Japanese-style food with a beautiful view.

The room was much nicer than I'd expected, especially the view from inside. I only stayed one night, and the heavy rain made the trip up the hill with my big suitcase a struggle. The position is a bit of a challenge to reach, but once you're up there, you see why it's worth it for the view. The weather kept me from seeing it at its best. The room had a Japanese ryokan feel and a bathtub I didn't use, though the water pressure was very good. Breakfast at the restaurant the next morning was simple and tasty. I'm not sure when the best season to visit Jiufen is, but I'd stay here again if I return. Thanks for the lovely room.

The hostess helped us park near the fire station and came to greet us, which was helpful since the hotel is at the top of a hill and access isn't easy. We stayed one night in February 2023. The big window and its wide sea view were the best part. The hotel was fine otherwise, though there was no luggage rack, the Wi-Fi directions were missing, and the map was hard to make out. After a night walk around town, allow extra time to find your way back to the room.

The rooms and inn have a lovely Japanese look, with tatami mats, futons, and beautiful sliding doors. Breakfast was delicious, and the views from the rooms and restaurant are worth checking out. It's about a five-minute walk to Jiufen's old street.
