Lanying Home

You can bring food back from Jiufen old street and eat in the small dining area if you’d rather not squeeze through the crowds. Lanying home is just two minutes from the old street, with genuinely friendly, helpful staff and a cute dog that doesn’t bother you. The room walls were a little thin, and some amenities were worn, like the cracked lampshade. The tap pressure was also a bit too strong, though everything worked. I’d recommend the place and would come back.

I was really disappointed with the service. Because of the Typhoon, I asked to cancel and get a refund, but they refused. I’d booked through Agoda and the full amount had already been charged to my credit card. The receptionist, Ms. Lee, was rude. When I said I was recording the call and asked her to be polite, she said she wanted to record too and told me to hold. She restarted the conversation in a sarcastically “fake polite” tone. Since the booking was non-refundable, I also asked if I could move it to another date, but they wouldn’t allow that either, saying it was their policy. Ms. Lee didn’t answer my questions and said their place was safe and unaffected by the Typhoon. My Taiwan driver had warned me that the route to Jiufen might be dangerous that day and advised me not to take the risk. The receptionist told me it was my own problem and nothing to do with them. Please think carefully before booking. It felt like Lanying home cared about making a profit regardless of customer safety.

Breakfast is included, and it’s a quiet, clean, bright, spacious place with easy access. The staircases are plentiful. Family mart is a two-minute walk away, and the Laojie entrance is three minutes away.

Small but cozy, and easy to find since it’s right by the road. The important thing to know is that you’ll have to carry your luggage upstairs. Update: the photo was taken from the second-floor balcony.
