Howard Beach Resort Kenting Hengchun

There’s plenty to eat and do within a five-minute walk, and the Kenting Night Market is right next door. There’s also a beach nearby. The room was really big, and everything was very good apart from the shower, which had weak flow and pressure and water that was hard to keep at a steady temperature.

The beach is lovely, and you can get to it directly from the hotel. There’s also a big pool and a breakfast buffet with plenty to choose from. The hotel feels quite old, and the internet in my room kept cutting out. The room itself was spacious, and the bed, duvet, and pillow were all very comfortable.

The staff were very kind and tried hard to help, but I still wouldn’t recommend staying here. We were in the villas, and the place looked nothing like the photos or what had been promised. It’s outdated, the room smelled strongly of damp, and there were no windows. The layout was awful, and the hotel didn’t feel remotely up to five-star standard. The location is convenient, but reception was often unattended. The pool was empty and had to be refilled every day, bringing staff traffic and noise. There’s also a small deer petting area on site, and the animals looked miserable in awful conditions. It was heartbreaking to see, and I felt the hotel shouldn’t be operating that way.

The staff were friendly, and it was clear they were trying to keep the place going, but the problems seemed to come from management. The resort has the location and facilities to be a top place, yet poor upkeep made it feel like a haunted house. Black mold covered the walls, which seemed really unhealthy. A fresh coat of paint every couple of years or anti-mold paint could make a difference. The attached mall was also run down and almost empty. We were told this was a five-star resort, but the only five stars I saw were the metal ones at the entrance.
