Provence Rose Lodge in Ching Jing

The building and rooms are a bit aged, and some bugs get in, which comes with the surroundings. Still, the room was comfortable and the shower had good hot water, though it can get a little cold. I liked the French Tudor design. There’s a separate villa for larger groups, and it seems to have plenty of returning guests. The boss was friendly and helpful. I’d come back.

I came to work remotely, but the Wi-Fi barely reached my room, and bugs getting in from outside made the stay less pleasant. The showerhead leaked, and an extra blanket or pillow costs more. The Taiwanese-Italian food was decent, though.

It’s hard to walk up the steep slope to our room down the hill, so ask about the location before booking if that’s a concern. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. This was my second stay. The first time included a full breakfast and lovely afternoon tea, but after all these years they no longer have a buffet breakfast. I’m guessing low occupancy might be why.

Our basement-level room was comfortable, but had no view. It was big and clean, with complimentary bottled water, packet milk tea, tea, and biscuits. The café looks out over the mountains. We paid 250 each for a healthy set breakfast, with free-flow drinks at the beverage counter. The owner keeps bunnies by the carpark. Guests can see them from outside the fence, but aren’t allowed to feed or interact with them.
