For two weeks, 20 of us from Xinwu High School in Taoyuan stayed at Muyun B&B for a course. We cycled to National Dong Hwa University during the day, then came back in the evenings for classes. The common spaces gave all of us room to draw and work, and we could cook together outside with six gas stoves and a separate sink. We prepared meals for the students and teachers throughout the course. The grounds were a lovely setting for learning. There was a pond and a large lawn in front, with many kinds of trees around the property, and buffalo grazing along the nearby trails. The rooms were comfortable and tastefully decorated, and even the bathrooms had their own distinctive style. The owner and administrator welcomed us warmly. They brought cakes, snacks, and drinks to encourage the students, and helped whenever something came up unexpectedly. Their care gave the students a chance to see how much attentive management and mutual goodwill matter. We are grateful for the stay and for the part it played in the success of our course. I recommend Muyun B&B for both leisure and coursework.

I loved the quiet, tucked-away feel of this place, with trees all around and flowers and a pond on the grounds. My husband and I found the room clean and comfortable, and parking was easy. We also spotted birds and swallowtail butterflies while walking around, which was a lovely surprise. I'll come back when I'm in Hualien again.

The morning light through the glass and the view of all that greenery made it hard to get out of bed. The second-floor rooms have wide glass views and lots of natural light, and waking up among the trees felt like a real treat for us city people. The guesthouse is so photogenic that I spent nearly an hour after checkout wandering the big garden and taking pictures. At the far end I found a small lake among bald cypress trees, almost like a little landscape garden, and the green path at the entrance was lovely in photos too. Our six-person room was huge, with a split-level layout and smaller beds downstairs that made my parents very happy. Even with our luggage, there was plenty of room for the kids to play. The glass house has a large table downstairs where the family could eat, make tea, play cards, or mahjong. Its distinctive glass walls let in great light, and on sunny days the outside greenery reflects in them beautifully. Parking was right outside, and self check-in meant we could arrive flexibly. The lights and music were already on when we went in. I wanted to stay another night, but the owner said the place was booked for the next day. Checkout was at 11, so we reluctantly left after our photo walk. Next time I'll book several nights.

The self check-in setup made it easy for our family and friends to arrive on different schedules. We didn't have to keep coordinating with the owner, and the room was ready with lights and music on, plus a tea set and tableware. We bought fried chicken, barbecue, and red wine and had a lovely break together. Nobody wanted to leave. We had three cars, and being able to park them on the big lawn inside the property was a huge relief. After many trips to Hualien, I still find parking the most tiring part, and roadside parking leaves me worrying about damage. We came back to Muyun Homestay as a family and enjoyed the setting just as much as before. From the rooftop observation deck, we could see the mountains and the Central Mountain Range, with Qilai Mountain's snowy peaks in view after the cold snap. We spent afternoons up there drinking tea and taking in the snow, without having to climb. The estate is only a 20-minute drive from the city, but felt peaceful and secluded. We stayed three days and two nights and still didn't want to go. The owner keeps the property in good shape, and the variety of plants was a nice change from the generic hotels we're used to. We'll choose it again next time we're in Hualien.
