Ai Lai Fashion Hotel

We booked through expedia for my husband and me, for February 15-19, 2024. The young woman at the front desk was polite and friendly when we checked in. Our room was on the fourth floor. There were no smoking signs, but the hallway smelled of cigarette smoke as soon as we got off the elevator, and the room smelled too. We left for our plans, but when we came back tired and showered, the odor was still far too strong. Opening the window didn't help much, and it was too noisy above the busy street, even close to midnight, to sleep. We couldn't stand it and booked another hotel. The man at the desk said he couldn't refund us because we'd booked online. It was after midnight, so we said we'd deal with it online. On March 1, 2024, after many emails back and forth, expedia told us the hotel wouldn't approve a refund. We're very frustrated. We even said we'd accept being charged for one night since we used the shower, but charging us for all the remaining nights is unacceptable. The room was unlivable because of the smoke. The smell reached the hall as soon as we stepped out of the elevator, despite the no-smoking signs throughout the hotel. I expected them to honor that rule as a paying customer. We wouldn't have booked if we'd known they wouldn't, and we wouldn't have had to scramble for somewhere else to sleep at midnight. I'm shocked that a 3-star hotel could smell so bad and misrepresent itself. I feel like I'm being punished while the hotel faces no consequences for falsehoods. They may have refund rules, but the hotel never contacted me to make things right and is keeping my money. I find that unethical and wouldn't book or recommend the hotel or expedia. I don't understand how this can be a 3-star hotel or how anyone can leave good reviews when I felt like I was lying in an ashtray and my needs as a customer were ignored. Maybe other guests smoke and don't mind it. Maybe the management has no shame. I don't know. I just know it's wrong.

The location is convenient, close to a public bus stop and some tourist spots. My room was on the second floor right beside the road, so it got noisy in the morning. The room was fairly clean, though it could be improved. Breakfast was simple but good, and guests need to pick it up at the front desk.

The location was very handy, close to the National Art Museum. Our four-person room had a large bathroom, and the rooms were clean and renovated. Breakfast and parking were included in the price.

There was a good place to park when we arrived at the hotel, and it was convenient for getting around wherever you want to go.
