Taichung Charming City Hotel

The 7-11 and nearby restaurants are good, and there’s an umbrella you can borrow. But this was my third visit since last year, and during an eight day stay they never did housekeeping. Once, they took out the trash and added toilet paper, that was all. In quad room 1208, the switches are defective and the lights turn on randomly while you’re sleeping. There was a sign at the front desk offering chips for leaving a 5 star review, but they never restocked the chips, so I’m not giving them a 5 star score. One of the front desk staff also kept smoking outside, as if no one was left in the concierge.

There are lots of small local restaurants nearby, and the hotel is close to the MTR station. The rooms were clean enough and breakfast was free. Toiletries were limited to shampoo and bath gel, though, so I had to ask reception for hand soap. One heads up about payment: despite choosing pay at the hotel on Agoda, my card was charged right away when I booked. I was a bit surprised by that pre charge. We picked this area because I was visiting someone nearby. If you’re coming to Taichung for sightseeing and tourist attractions, you may want to stay closer to those destinations.

There’s a 7Eleven, a fruit store, and a little night market with lots of food stalls in the surrounding area. I stayed one night on a company outing, and the room was spacious and fairly clean. I skipped breakfast, though my colleagues said it wasn’t a 4 star breakfast.

Charming Hotel has become my second home in Taichung. Lee Women’s Hospital, milktea shops, cafes, and restaurants are all an easy walk away, and the place itself is comfortable, relaxing, and easy to get around from. Worth every dollar. Cheers!
