Getcha Hostel

The receptionist was pleasant to deal with, and the location was okay, near a night market. But the female floor was not clean. There was lots of black mould in the bathroom, and one shower was out of service. I was worried about breathing in mould while showering. The corridor floor was dirty too. See photos. In the bedrooms, the lighting was poor, and they weren't properly soundproofed or ventilated. Other people in the dorm came and went at all hours, making really loud noises through the night without meaning to. The aircon was noisy as well. My bed's headboard was against the only window, which blocked natural light, and street noise might keep you awake. I thought around $750 on agoda was expensive for what you get. Some guys I was travelling with stayed in the mixed dorm for much less than I paid. Women shouldn't have to pay extra to feel safe. It would also help to have hooks or somewhere to hang towels to dry. By the charging ports, shelves would be better than the fabric pockets. Mine were visibly soiled, so I didn't use them.

The good part was having plenty of outlets right by the bed. But the Wi-Fi didn't work for me, and the network connection was poor on my floor. The bed also felt like sleeping on the ground. A hotel in Taipei at the same price was much better.

The hostel looks modern and is right in the city center, with plenty of services nearby. My room was clean, though the toilet smelled of urine. There's a market just next door, so bring earplugs if you stay here.

At around 4 a.m., a male guest got drunk in the corridor on my floor, shouting and hitting things before falling asleep in front of the bathroom entrance. The first floor has a bistro and bar. As a woman, I didn't feel secure here: most guests seemed to be men, and the rooms and toilets/bathrooms are shared by everyone.
