Hoya Resort Hotel Wuling

The newly redecorated place made for a beautiful, relaxing stay, with a nice view of nature and the stars at night. The buffet was good, and they also offered professional music performances and guided stargazing tours.

The valley is beautiful, the night sky is starry, and the spa was nice after a day of walking. Those were the only two good things about Hoya for me. The hotel seems to want the look of a prestigious four-star place, but apart from the price, it doesn’t deliver. The rooms are nothing special, poorly ventilated, and have old carpet that doesn’t look clean. The beds were okay. The buffet was the worst part: below-average food, too crowded in a badly arranged space, old and often broken furniture, and no quiet time to eat. We signed up at reception for an early breakfast, but when we arrived, we were told there was no room and had to wait for the next service. That doesn’t feel like four-star service. We didn’t have a restful stay, and I don’t think the hotel meets that standard. I wouldn’t recommend staying at Hoya.

For a place in a national park, this is a pretty average hotel in a lovely setting. Having “resort” in the name raised my expectations, but it mostly just has what you need to sleep. Dinner and breakfast are included as Asian-style buffets, and those were actually quite okay, with a wide selection and fairly good food.

The natural surroundings are lovely, but that’s the only reason I can see to stay at Hoya. The service was good, and the buffet was average. The hotel itself felt very old and poorly maintained, as if things were falling apart. On arrival, the facade was dirty, the walls badly needed paint, and the large windows looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in months. We had a family room for four. The bathroom was poor, with a tap hanging from the wall as if it had been hastily repaired years ago. The bed was very hard, I could hear every neighbor through the paper-thin walls, and there was an old, smelly carpet and harsh industrial-style lighting. It’s listed as a four-star hotel, but the only four-star thing was the price. My hopes for a relaxing holiday in nature disappeared as soon as I entered the room. Simple and clean would be enough for me at the right price, but this wasn’t acceptable for a four-star hotel.
