Moxy Taichung

The lobby is the liveliest part of Moxy Taichung, with its bar, lounge spots, games, and regular activities that make it easy to mingle. It has a youthful, playful feel, with contemporary design mixed with local touches. As part of Marriott Bonvoy, it offers a social alternative to a traditional hotel. Rooms are compact and minimal, though the beds are comfortable and the smart TVs, free Wi-Fi, rainfall showers, and clever storage make good use of the space. There’s also a 24-hour gym, meeting space, and casual dining. It’s a good fit for a short city stay. In Taichung’s Nantun District, it’s near Fengle Sculpture Park and within easy reach of shopping, cafes, and cultural attractions. The upbeat atmosphere and friendly service may especially suit younger travelers, creatives, and anyone after a laid-back stay.

The rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable, and the lobby had plenty to keep the kids occupied, including table games, a pool table, and a Street Fighter machine. The design and decor felt chic, lively, and fun. What let us down was the service. Staff didn’t smile and often seemed bothered when I asked something. Since it was my first stay here with young children, I needed more help and had a few questions, but everyone seemed too busy for my family. I picked Moxy Taichung for our family vacation because I’d had a fantastic stay at Moxy Tokyo. There, as an Elite Gold member, I felt recognized and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I’m now Elite Titanium, but at this hotel I felt like just another guest from check-in through checkout. Maybe Titanium, with 75 nights in a year, is common here, or perhaps most guests are Titanium or Ambassador members. I’m not sure what benefits I should receive as Elite Titanium, but I hope Marriott Bonvoy looks into this review.

The atmosphere throughout the property was amazing and stayed true to its theme. I also liked the gym, and the laundry and ironing rooms were a nice touch. Unlimited sparkling water was another welcome amenity. My room had very little storage, and the Wi-Fi and TV connection need work. Still, I loved my stay.

I paid over 250.00 USD a night, but the room was so cramped there wasn’t even room for a table. The lobby bathroom was literally bigger than my room. There are much better hotel values in Taichung, and this felt like a total rip-off. It’s a new, clean hotel and the bed was comfortable by Marriott standards. But they ignored my bed configuration and my Gold Elite status. I didn’t feel welcome, whether the staff were overwhelmed or simply didn’t care.
