Crowne Plaza Tainan by IHG

We loved this hotel as a family. Our room was booked with points, and we got an upgrade to a tatami room for two of our four nights, which was amazing. While we were changing rooms, my child’s stuffed animal was accidentally left behind. Grace kindly tracked it down, and after breakfast we found it waiting for us at reception. The staff were all wonderful. I’d recommend the hotel, especially for families with kids.

I’ve stayed at Crowne Plaza Tainan many times over the past year and held company events there too, including our year-end banquet and company accommodation. So this comes from repeated experience, not just one visit. What keeps standing out is how warm and thoughtful the service feels. Whether at the front desk or coordinating an event, the team has been professional, attentive, and caring. I don’t feel like just another reservation. There’s a sincere, human kind of hospitality here. The leadership is reflected in how staff speak with guests and take responsibility, with empathy and respect instead of rigidly following procedures. That consistency builds trust. Crowne Plaza Tainan stands out to me because of its people. I trust it and confidently recommend it for personal stays and important company events.

We regretted staying here. The service and breakfast seemed miles below other Crowne Plaza hotels, and I’m not sure I’d recommend it. Food and beverage service needs some big improvements. There were a few good points. The location is quiet, the lobby decor is impressive, and the door and reception staff were friendly and helpful. A special mention to the lifeguard, maybe Andi? The room was clean and housekeeping did a good job. The two men working behind the bar on the evening of Jan 5 were incredibly rude and unfriendly. We were ignored twice, a first for us in Taiwan, and felt uncomfortable, so we didn’t go back. Breakfast was by far the worst we’ve had at a Crowne Plaza in Asia. The layout was odd, with food scattered around, quality was poor, some items were cold, and many dishes were empty. This happened both days at 8.30am and 9.30am. The chefs, except at the noodle station, were rude and stayed away from the counter. I had to ask several times for fresh eggs. They seemed uninterested in breakfast. I’d say skip it, but there isn’t really an option. The bed was extremely soft and uncomfortable, felt like it needed replacing, with springs you could feel and a dip in the middle. The hotel is also quite far out with little nearby. A taxi into the city costs around $250-350. We knew that before booking, so that’s just an observation for other guests.

The building feels like a work of art. Its roof fits beautifully with the local Anping fishing town style, and the guardian lion door sign carries the same heritage. I was lucky to get a river-view room. Just sitting on the balcony felt peaceful and relaxing. The pool was well cared for and at a very comfortable temperature, and every staff member I met was friendly and welcoming. I’ll definitely stay again.
