The house has lots of thoughtful details and an original character, and the hospitality was outstanding. We really enjoyed staying there and the convenient location. There was some street noise in the front room on the 2F, probably because the soundproofing isn’t great and the house is in its original location. We didn’t hear other guests, though. My partner slept fine, and I used earplugs, so we both got enough sleep :) It’s a beautiful, genuine guesthouse, and we’d love to return to Tainan and stay again.
There wasn’t much room to put clothes away. No closet or shelves, so mine stayed folded in my suitcase. The hat rack had maybe two or three hangers, nowhere near enough for a week’s worth of clothes. The bed had only a comforter, no sheets. The room was clean, service friendly, shower pressure good, and the lighting was nice. You can walk to lots of street food stalls, markets, and small shops. It’s near a busy road in the daytime, though things calm down later in the evening. Entry to both the B&B and the room uses a QR code, which could be tricky if you’re unfamiliar with the technology. I didn’t see an elevator, though there may be one. If stairs are an issue, ask whether there are first-floor rooms. The steps are steep and slick, so take care if you have a lot of luggage. My “outside room” had a narrow porch with rotting planks that I didn’t fully trust, and it looked onto a big white hotel wall. I’d hoped for a quaint, cool patio like the photos showed, but that’s not what I got. For the price, it was an okay stay.
We had a great two days at IsShoNi House. The hospitality was unmatched, the room felt very comfortable, and the coffee downstairs at the cafe was excellently made. I’d highly recommend staying here if you’re visiting Tainan.
lael helped my wife and me up to our room, then explained the building’s history, its significance, and the available facilities in detail. We were also given postcards and cute maps of local delicacies within walking distance. After two nights we went to Kaohsiung for a concert, then returned to Tainan. They kindly stored our huge luggage for a night to make the trip easier, and even mailed our postcards to Malaysia without accepting any money. The place was kept very clean and tidy, and we have no complaints. The hospitality was unmatched, and it was an unforgettable, pleasant stay!
The host was so kind and helpful, with great suggestions for places to visit. The house is charming, and our room was clean and comfortable. It’s a lovely little B&B in Tainan’s central west district, and I’d happily stay again on our next trip.
