The Japanese-style rooms and little courtyard are lovely, and the shared kitchen has a microwave and water dispenser. My room was practical, with outlets in handy spots, and the modern bathroom had strong water pressure and a hand-held bidet shower 🙃. But the futon smelled, and there were water marks in the bathroom. For the price, the condition and complicated check-in didn't feel like good value. It's about an 8-minute walk from Tainan Station, but the B&B is buried in a narrow alley and was hard to find the first time. Check-in is entirely unmanned, so you have to contact the owner through an app like LINE to get the entrance and room codes. Communication is all in Chinese.

The room and bathroom were clean, and I loved how a local resident came out to help after Google Maps sent us the wrong way. He even found two other residents to help translate. That community spirit was lovely. We had the smallest room on the first floor. It was cramped, with no shelves or other place to set our things, and there wasn't a window unless you count the one inside the shower. The floor beds were hard and uncomfortable, and noise from the bathroom was really annoying. Hopefully the owner adds shelves and improves the walking directions.

We stayed in December 2025, and there are plenty of other places to stay in Tainan, so I'd look around. Our "Tokugawa" room was on the third floor, which made hauling luggage up a real pain. The room itself was tiny and dim, and its window opened right onto the neighbor's laundry area, almost close enough to touch. We were disappointed to find the bathtub had been removed. The online photos showed the previous room with a tub, so I'd been looking forward to a bath. There was no refrigerator, either, and the TV volume was set so low we couldn't turn it up. I've never stayed somewhere that restricted guests like that. Before check-in, the owner sent a stern message about keeping quiet, smoking only in open areas outside the alley, and a ban on smoking anywhere in the guesthouse or at its entrance. It said public safety or smoke-control violations would lead to police intervention and compensation for business losses. That wording was unsettling, and they even called the police! Families with children may find the narrow alleys difficult to navigate by car. With kids and lots of luggage, we had to make several trips to unload. Parking is nearby, but costs $600 overnight, and you have to pay again if you drive out even briefly. I'd suggest finding a guesthouse with parking or staying at a hotel.

The bedding didn't seem clean, and I developed a rash on my thighs the day after sleeping on the blankets and mattress. The air conditioner and compressor were loud enough to disturb my sleep. The room was smaller than I expected and a bit too dim. I hope the hotel upgrades the equipment.

We had a triple room for two. It was smaller than expected, but clean and comfortable, and good value for the price and location. It's an easy enough walk from the train station, with plenty of other B&Bs nearby. Check-in is self-service after 4 PM. The owner texts you the gate and room codes beforehand. These photos were taken before checkout: light comes through the curtains in the daytime, and streetlights shine in at night, so this room may not suit anyone sensitive to light.
