The management communicates through LINE, and they can use either Chinese or English, so you’ll need to install the app if you don’t already have it. The lane is tucked away from the main streets, which keeps it pleasantly quiet, but it’s clean, tidy, well lit, and busy enough with pedestrians and motorcycles that it doesn’t feel deserted. 7-Eleven is close by for any small things you forgot to pack. Don’t be put off by the word “alley”!

The toilet has poor sound insulation. I’m not sure what switch the person next door was using, maybe the shower, but every time they turned it on or off there was a sharp noise coming through the thin bathroom partition. It was really unpleasant and kept bothering me even though it was already bedtime.

This was the dampest room I’ve ever stayed in. The smell hit me as soon as I walked in, and there was mold in plain sight. The owner seems to think mopping it up is enough, but it wasn’t. There was no dehumidifier, so the air conditioner was the only way to deal with the damp. The bed and pillows sagged badly and gave me no support, making sleep really uncomfortable. The chairs were uncomfortable, the table was tiny, and a regular wardrobe would have been more useful than the shelf. It’s a remodeled old house, so sound carries. Whether you sleep well depends on the other guests staying that day. Basic amenities worked properly, and having a water dispenser and microwave on the first floor was a plus. They also replied to messages quickly. I wouldn’t recommend it to light sleepers or people who are very particular about cleanliness. It could be a last resort if you can’t find somewhere else, but the prices aren’t cheap.

The room I had on the second floor was a standard double, clean and bright, with an outside-facing window. The bathroom was roomy, and a small window in the shower area let in some ventilation. I especially liked that the hand soap, shower gel, and shampoo were local Tainan brands. The bed and pillows were on the soft side, and the table was small, though it worked fine for me. You might also hear guests walking up and down the stairs in slippers, but during my stay it didn’t disturb me late at night. It’s tucked into an alley, but the helper’s directions before check-in made it easy to find, even on Google Maps. The area was quiet at night, helped by having a nice guest there. Breakfast places, restaurants, and convenience stores are all within a five-minute walk. I could leave my luggage first, and the spacious first-floor common area had a water dispenser, refrigerator, and dishes to borrow. I had a great stay. The helper responded online quickly and warmly, and I really liked the alley and the B&B’s atmosphere. I’d come back if I get the chance.

I booked this place the same morning I arrived in Tainan, after making a last-minute decision to visit and having trouble finding a room. It was my first time staying in a Tainan B&B, and I hadn’t thought much of them before, but this one changed my mind. I’m prone to skin and nose allergies, yet I felt comfortable from check-in through check-out. The room was so clean there wasn’t a speck of dust on the floor, and the furnishings and atmosphere felt comfortable too. They even had mosquito repellent in the room, which is a real bonus in summer. The one drawback was the soundproofing. If that were improved, the place would be completely worth it. I’ll definitely consider staying here next time I’m in Tainan.
