Shangri-La Far Eastern Tainan

The hotel is right by Tainan city train station, and for the price it’s one of the best places I’ve stayed. Weekday bookings are an even better deal. I had a couple of nights here to rest from traveling, enjoy the atmosphere, and use the exercise facilities. The breakfast buffet had an amazing range of tasty, well-made dishes, with plenty for people who prefer healthy food. The pool is well designed and a good size for both swimming for exercise and relaxing. Staff were courteous and pleasant all the way from the front desk to the bakery lady. Picky guests may notice some mild wear in the rooms. If management keeps replacing worn finishes like wallpaper and carpet and touching up worn surfaces, the stay can remain a well-rounded experience. I’d recommend it even to an average world traveler.

I love this place and plan to return every year. From check-in on, everyone at Shangri-La Far Eastern Plaza Hotel, Tainan looked after us warmly and professionally, with real attention to detail. A lovely staff member helped us on arrival, though unfortunately I can't remember her name. I also want to thank Ms. May Yao and Ms. Teresa for taking such good care of my mother and me throughout the stay. They made us feel comfortable, relaxed, and happy. The hotel made our visit wonderful and memorable in every way. Thank you to the staff and management for such an unforgettable experience. 🙏✨

The hotel itself is fine, and the rooms are spacious. But Pavillon completely ruined our Christmas dinner. We picked it on purpose for the special occasion. When we tried to reserve at the service desk, the person there said it couldn't be done and suggested another hotel. A senior staff member eventually made the reservation. To our surprise, the restaurant wasn't even a third full that evening. Service was inadequate. The dishes arrived far apart and one came cold. It had to be sent back, which took another 20 minutes. Meanwhile we ate the rest so it wouldn't get cold too. I made a formal complaint and mentioned it in the survey sent afterward, but the hotel never responded. Their customer care afterward feels nonexistent. I chose to stay here for a festive Christmas period, but it turned out to be a disappointment.

The suites are a good size and the staff were friendly. The hotel's spot across from the main train station can be a hassle, though. To avoid the long walk around, you have to get a special ticket at the station that lets you pass through it, which is painful. We had access to the lounge floor, but there wasn't enough food or drink for everyone using it at breakfast and dinner. The choices were limited and not worth the extra cost, and there wasn't enough for a proper meal. It's the most modern and highly rated hotel in Tainan.
