Slow Tainan Homestay

The Wi-Fi was strong, and we were grateful for the free room upgrade. We stayed in a room with Japanese-style decor, though I can't give its Chinese name here. The staff were so kind and helpful, spoke some English, called me back to check if I'd gotten lost, and carried our luggage up to the second floor. The experience was better than I expected. It took about 10 minutes to walk from Tainan train station, which is different from the High-Speed Train Tainan station. The hotel is near the university campus, with affordable Taiwanese and Japanese food, shops, basketball courts, and running lanes around it. A bus ride from Tainan center takes about 15 minutes. Google Maps can make the place hard to find, so search for Slow Walk Southern Land Tainan Story Homestay using the Chinese name.

We booked at the last minute without knowing the place was so cute or had rooms themed around history. Ours was the 1860s room, clean and really cozy, and the concrete shower was a nice touch. The woman who helped us was so kind and useful. I'd recommend it to travelers after a stay with a bit of character.

The location wasn't easy to spot or convenient, and the bed was dusty with a damp mattress. Neither the room lock nor the locker lock worked. Staff were completely unfriendly and said the issue with the “Dorm Room” rather than “A room for single person” was my misunderstanding and my fault. They changed the wording after I visited. There was very little equipment. The washing machine was old and only partly worked, there was no dryer, and towels and other basics weren't provided. I would not recommend this place.

We had to alter our booking at the last minute because of a typhoon, and they were very accommodating. The service was great.
