Small Island Homestay

The location made it easy to get to the train station and restaurants. The room was clean, and the sheets and bathroom had no smells or stains. They supplied enough amenities. The Wi-Fi in my room kept cutting out, but I guessed the other room had the same password, and that connection worked. There isn't a reception desk, so we had to contact the manager through Booking.com, LINE, or a Taiwanese phone number. It took a little while to get through when we had an urgent issue, but it was fixed within an hour.

It's a decent choice if you don't need much from your accommodation, especially for the price and location. The train station is very close, and there's a department store nearby where you can find things easily. From the back exit, go through Far Eastern Department Store, turn right, then follow the alley to the end. The stairs are steep, and check-in is self-service with a password. The room has a fair bit of space, and the cleanliness was acceptable, though the comforter smelled a little damp despite being clean. Soundproofing could be better. Towels and basic toiletries like shower gel are provided. If you forgot something, razors and toothbrushes are sold upstairs for a few dollars. There's even a water dispenser halfway up the stairs XD, they really make use of the space.

It's cheap and very close to the train station, but the room had a lot of problems. The stairs are steep, with no elevator, and the air conditioning barely cooled the room even set to 18 degrees Celsius on high. The TV remote didn't work, and no one answered or called back when I rang at 10 PM. There's a raised step in the bathroom that gets slippery with wet feet. The bed was really hard to lie on because two pillows had been stuffed into the gap between the bed and headboard. Never seen that before 🙂. The comforter also had yellow stains, and the hairdryer was so weak it was hard to use.

The price is very cheap, and you have the basic supplies. It's close to the train station, though you have to go around behind Far Eastern Department Store to get in. The room is small and there's a lot of stairs. There were plenty of ants, maybe because it wasn't cleaned well or maybe because the room is old. Still, it wasn't bad overall and seems fine for backpackers staying one night.
