I booked my last two nights here because it’s central and only a few minutes from the station. But the room was filthy. I complained at reception on arrival, but the hotel was full and couldn't move me. They asked the cleaners to do a full clean the next day. When I returned, it was in the same condition. A clerk at reception then moved me to the grand hotel, two minutes away. There was dust and grime everywhere, including on the chairs, table, and television. The bathtub had black mold, a plug by the bed didn't work, and the entrance had scratches and missing wood panels. The carpet was coming apart too. I appreciated the first hotel's receptionist, who was understanding, and the grand hotel across the street was great and helpful in hosting me. Still, I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all. It needs to be cleaned from top to bottom.

I had a good stay, and the staff were very friendly and easy to deal with. My room was tiny, but that suited me as a solo traveler. I tried a windowless room, and with no light streaming in, I slept really well. I wouldn't recommend that room for a couple. Breakfast was below average. It was served off-site at a nearby Green World's hotel, with little variety and no heat under the serving dishes, so the hot food had gone cold. Otherwise, it was a decent place if basic rooms are fine with you.

The room was clean, and the staff were friendly. The location was convenient.

The beds were comfortable, and the location made getting around easy. There’s a bank next door, a grocery store a block away, several 7-11’s within a short half-block walk, a bus stop across the street, and the MRT about a block and a half away. We felt it was good value and would stay again. We booked two cozy double rooms for the family. Our 10 pm arrival was handled by one staff member, who was kind and tried to place us side by side. When that wasn’t possible, she found rooms on different floors in the same part of the building. We hadn’t given advance notice of the late arrival, so we appreciated her help. A few practical things: check-in is on the second floor and there’s just one elevator. Cozy Double rooms don’t include breakfast. Toiletries are set out by reception, so pick them up before heading upstairs. Housekeeping changes towels and replenishes water and tea through the fourth day of a stay. The rooms came with individually packed basics, including toothbrushes and small toothpaste tubes, razors and shaving cream, shampoo and body wash packets, combs, slippers, shower caps, floss picks, and cotton swabs. There were also two bottles of water and tea or coffee packets, replenished daily during housekeeping. The bathroom had an adjustable shower head, a tub, a bidet with several settings and self-cleaning, and universal charging outlets. The ninth floor takes a little extra effort: the elevator only goes to eight, then you walk up, and that floor isn’t air-conditioned. The gym has a treadmill and an arm-and-shoulder machine. There’s a water refill station beside the laundry machines. The washer costs $80 and the dryer $70, coins only, with detergent extra at $30. The front desk can make change. We did notice some upkeep issues: dust on the shades, desk corners, and shelves; mildew on the shower blinds and pull cord; a small bedsheet stain; peeling wallpaper; and a ceiling stain. We also spotted one bug over four nights. The shower curtain is flimsy, so water can get onto the bathroom floor.

The location and the friendly staff were the only real positives for us. We paid over $300 AUD a night in peak season for two large beds and an extra, rather lumpy single, and it felt like poor value. Finding the place was stressful. The address we’d been given took our taxi to the four-star GW hotel, Grand Nanjing. Its front desk then sent us to the three-star GW hotel, Nanjing Mai, a block away. The sign for the latter is tiny and easy to miss. We walked past it the first night while juggling a child, an infant, and our luggage. The entrance is cramped and leads to the hotel’s only elevator, which isn’t convenient with a stroller or pram. Our room’s cleanliness was the biggest disappointment. Dust had collected around the corners, artwork, and wall skirting, and the wallpaper was coming away at the corners. Under the beds looked as if it hadn’t been vacuumed in months: there was more dust, along with rubbish and a used tissue left by previous guests.
