East Coast Sea View Hotel

The staff were nice and helpful, and the rooms were large, but everything seemed scratched, stained, or worn. The carpets had huge stains, and the place felt like a provincial Soviet child care center from the 70s. For a resort, there’s no pool or other facilities. Laundry is two ten-year-old top loaders outside on a veranda. Basically a one-star “resort” hotel. Not recommended.

The food was good, and the gym was better than I’d expect at most hotels, though it only had machines and no free weights. The rooms are nicely designed and fairly modern, with balconies facing the ocean where you can watch the sunrise. You’ll need to open the windows, though, since they’re very dirty. The building itself is really old and needs some remodeling. There’s mold in places, and wallpaper droops elsewhere. The shower water never got hot for me, just tepid.

The beds were nice and the staff were kind, but the hotel is moldy and peeling, and the AC units don’t work very well. There’s one washer outside and no dryer. The TV outlet looks like a fire hazard. Be ready to be mosquito dinner all night!

It’s a very old hotel, but it was clean, and the staff really tried to make us feel welcome. They even did a little welcome dance while we were there. The market and foreshore are very close. We had a sea view room, though it was too cloudy to see the sunrise. Four stars for comfort, location, and cleanliness.
