The receptionist was friendly and offered to move me into a private room in the hotel section after I asked for compensation. I’d paid far too much for the condition of the facilities, but the problems followed me: cockroaches in that bathroom too, a sickening smell from humidity that doesn’t seem to clear, and a door lock between the room and hallway that didn’t work. The construction finish was terrible, nothing seemed right. I’d booked in the “hostel” section, though it felt more like a hotel pretending to be a hostel. The room wasn’t clean: the window sill looked like it had never been cleaned, and there was hair on the supposedly clean sheets. The lockers didn’t lock, so anyone could open them. Some shower doors were broken and left inside the shower. I was shocked to find cockroaches, and when I came back the next day to shower, the bathroom had no electricity. My advice is to stay away from this hotel.

We had a scenic room on a high floor, and the sunrise view was breathtaking. We could see Green Island and the wide Pacific Ocean, which made the stay memorable. Yoai Mountain Roam Hotel is a comfortable place right in central Taitung City. There’s a city bus stop at the entrance, and the lounge has free coffee, hot cocoa and warm milk, giving it a cozy feel. The rates surprised me too, a double room was around $60 USD a night. We had a great stay and will definitely come back!
